Knowing the New Toll Plaza Rules is Mandatory for Every Driver!

You happen to cross one or more toll plazas either every day or on a regular basis as per your needs. Usually, these toll plazas are built and maintained by the government as it charges some fees for every user. The charges are paid by the vehicle owners or the drivers who drive the vehicles while crossing these plazas. It is good to mention that they need to pay the fee every time they happen to cross the same place. The charges are not the same and equal for every user as it varies depending upon the type of vehicle.

The government has come up with new toll plaza rules and has implemented them already. The new toll plaza rules are very stringent as they do not exempt government officers and Padma Shree awardees. They were exempted from the list in the previous toll plaza rules. The credit for the new and current toll plaza rules should go to the Union Transport Minister Mr. Nitin Gadkari! Some of the features of new toll plaza rules include the following:

  • According to the National Highways Fee Hike in April 2022, the fee has been increased by 10%-15%. The rules say that all private and commercial vehicles would need to pay an extra amount ranging from Rs. 10 to Rs. 60.
  • The new toll plaza rules have laid special value to FASTags. It is a special process that has been described as Electronic Toll Collection on Toll Plazas. The new toll plaza rules have made the use of FASTags mandatory. The technology for FASTags makes use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for toll payment and it works immediately after the vehicle reaches the toll plazas.
  • The current toll plaza rules implement the provision of not paying the toll if the vehicles are in a queue for more than 10 seconds. It means that the processing at these toll plazas has been made faster so that they can make the vehicles pay for the tax within 10 seconds. Otherwise, the vehicles can cross the toll plaza without paying the toll tax.
